Dell Inspiron 13 5000 vs 7000: Which Mid-Range Ultrabook Reigns?

Dell’s Inspiron 13 5000 and 7000 series both target mid-range ultrabook shoppers, but they differ in performance, features, and price. Let’s break down their strengths.

The Inspiron 13 5000 (5379) is a 2-in-1 with Intel’s 8th-gen quad-core i5-8250U, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD, starting at $529. It’s a versatile pick for those needing tablet-morphing abilities—its 360° hinge lets you use it as a tablet, tent, or laptop. While its 13-inch display is dim (208 nits) and battery life is so-so, its quad-core performance shines in tasks like video encoding, making it a solid choice for budget-conscious buyers who want multitasking power and flexibility.

On the other hand, the Inspiron 13 7000 packs a more premium punch. With an 11th-gen Intel Core i7-1165G7, up to 16GB RAM, and options like an NVIDIA MX350 GPU, it starts at $1,199. It boasts a sleeker aluminum design, a brighter anti-glare display, and faster storage (up to 2TB NVMe SSD). Performance-wise, it crushes the 5000 in benchmarks—scoring 845 in Cinebench R15 multi-core (vs. the 5000’s ~4,117 HandBrake score) and handling graphics-intensive tasks with ease. However, it sacrifices portability (no 2-in-1 hinge) and costs nearly double.

Choose the 5000 if you want a flexible 2-in-1 with quad-core performance on a budget. Opt for the 7000 if you need top-tier specs, a premium build, and discrete graphics for gaming or creative work—just be ready to pay a premium. Both deliver Dell’s reliable design, but your priorities—flexibility vs. raw power—will dictate the winner.
