Dell Alienware m15 R2: Slim Design Meets Gaming Power

The Dell Alienware m15 R2 stands out as a sleek upgrade to the Alienware line, packing more power into a slimmer frame than its predecessor, the m15 R1. Weighing just 2160g and measuring 360.5 x 276 x 19.50mm, it’s significantly lighter and more compact than rivals like the Acer Predator Triton 900—making it a portable pick for gamers on the go. Its design shines with two color options (Lunar Light and Dark Side of the Moon), a sturdy magnesium alloy chassis, and a bright OLED 4K display (or a 1080p option with up to 240Hz refresh rate). While the backlit keyboard is a joy to type on, the small, occasionally laggy touchpad and bottom-mounted speakers are minor downsides.

Under the hood, the m15 R2 delivers solid gaming and multitasking performance. It’s powered by an 8-core Intel Core i9-9980HK processor (2.4GHz base, 5.0GHz boost) that handles basic tasks and light video editing with ease, scoring 179 on Cinebench R15—beating laptops like the MSI GF 63. The 8GB DDR4 RAM (upgradable to 16GB) keeps 15+ Chrome tabs running smoothly, though its PCMark score of 5374 is slightly lower than the m15 R1. The real star is the 2TB M.2 SSD, which hits 1924.95MBps read and 2371.22MBps write speeds—faster than many peers. For graphics, the optional NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q (8GB VRAM) runs AAA games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 114fps, even if its 3DMark score trails top competitors.

What truly surprises is the m15 R2’s battery life, a rarity for gaming laptops. Its 6-cell battery lasts 9 hours 14 minutes on idle, 5 hours 34 minutes of web browsing, and 5 hours 1 minute of 4K video playback—outlasting the MSI GE 65 Raider-51 and Dell G7. While max workloads drain it in 44 minutes, this endurance makes it usable beyond just gaming sessions. All in all, the m15 R2 balances portability, power, and battery life—proving a slim gaming laptop doesn’t have to compromise on performance.
